If you are interested in starting Pilates find a Pilates instructor or coach who can help you get started. A Pilates instructor can work with you at your home or in the gym, but many Pilates instructors have their own specialised equipment including a Pilates reformer – a traditional piece of Pilates equipment which looks like a bed with a sliding carriage, ropes and pulleys. Pilates instructors may also use other apparatus like a chair, Cadillac or barrel.

Some Pilates instructors focus on mat work and don’t incorporate the reformer into their classes. This gives them greater flexibility because mat work can be done anywhere. Often mat work is done in a class environment.
